Daily transitions – Part 3

In providing a contrast from the other days, today didn’t disappoint. With cloud and sun in the morning and a bright haze sun in the afternoon we have a good transition on our hands today.

The main focus in the morning was the fact that the sun was shifting the shadows between the clouds. This is an observation I had managed to capture yet as the past few days have been over cast. Its probably the most interesting natural visual as we can feel the earth movement around the sun in quite a profound way. It makes you feel small and remind you that there are large forces that affect the landscape in front of you. Its also one of the main attraction to time lapse photography I believe.

In the afternoon the clouds seem to evaporate and were replaced with brightness and haze. So much so that it played tricks with the camera. At one point the camera set the shutter speed to 800th of second, this provided an overly bright landscape which didn’t replicate what I was seeing at least. The suns position played a huge part in this as it was now in front of the camera putting to much light on the sensor. This meant that I had to switch to manual mode to drop the exposure down slightly during the last few shots.

An example.

I deleted the first AV shot then reproduced the process as I felt it made for good reflection. The 800th of a second was way to fast and in fact 200th of a second gave a closer representation.

The next shot also had the same problem with AV mode choosing 320 this time which was again too dark. The sunset is right in front of the window so this issue is perfectly understandable. Again 200th of a second was the closest match.
